Sixth Avenue's own Grace Choi was selected for the second Superintendent's Quarterly Awards for the 2011-2012 school year. These awards recognize outstanding parents, staff and community members who make a difference in the lives of APS students. Mrs. Choi was chosen over other APS principals by a committee composed of members from the Classified Employees Council, the Aurora Education Association and the School Executives of Aurora participated in the selection process. The awards presentation took place on November 16, 2011 at the PLCC.
Several students from Sixth Avenue joined music teacher Marie Hodges at the APS Town Hall meeting on November 10th. They provided entertainment for everyone as they came into the meeting. Mr. Barry personally thanked each student for performing and also awarded Mrs. Hodges with a Superintendent Recognition Coin for helping students prepare for the evening. Justin Matott, the author of great books such as Old Lady Grizelda, visited Sixth Avenue on Tuesday, November 8th. He shared stories with students of his childhood, how he dealt with bullies, and the inspiration behind some of his stories. Students and teachers were laughing at his terrific humor and amazing sound effects. You can see pictures from the day on the Photo Album page of the web site.
Students from 2nd and 5th grade have been able to post their most current technology projects to the Student Blog page of the school website. 5th graders wrote their own blog posts about various life skills and Internet safety tips. 2nd graders created their own animated movies demonstrating the life cycle of a plant.

Students in grades 1 through 5 have now participated in Field Day. Everyone had a terrific time. Thank you to Ms. Gilbert for organizing both days. And thank you to the 5th grade students and parent volunteers who helped run stations.
